Most things can be sorted out in a minute. For anything else, write to me.
Common cases
„Waiting for the host“
That is normal while the meeting has not started. The display joins by itself as soon as someone who authorized it is in the meeting. Nobody has to watch it, even if the device was switched on hours in advance.
If it stays there long after the meeting has started, usually a different account gave the authorization than the one in the meeting. Zoom only passes on participant details while the authorizing account is present. To fix it, authorize again with the account that owns the meeting and starts it as host. The steps are in the guide.
„Connecting …“ for a long time
This screen means everything checks out and the display is joining. If it takes long, the display is usually in the meeting's Waiting Room and the host has to admit it.
After a few seconds a Cancel button appears, which takes you back to the form.
„The authorisation has expired“
Zoom's access key is valid for 90 days. The service renews it automatically. If renewal keeps failing, the meeting has to be authorized once more. The display takes you straight there and carries on by itself once the new authorization is in place. Nobody has to touch the device.
Tapping a tile does nothing
To unmute other people, the display needs host or co-host rights in the meeting. Without them Zoom does not allow it, and the tiles only show who has raised a hand. You give those rights in Zoom, as for any other participant.
We want to withdraw the authorization
You can do that yourself in Zoom. The steps are in the guide. Everything stored is deleted at the same time.
Something else
Then write to me (see below). It helps to know what you saw and what you did just before.
Write to me
meldungen.app is a private project alongside a day job, not a company with an on-call rota. I reply within five working days, usually sooner. If something is holding up a meeting, please say so in the subject line.
So that I do not have to ask back, it helps to include:
- what you expected and what happened instead,
- whether it happened once or happens every time,
- which device and browser (for example „iPad, Safari“).
Please do not send me the meeting ID or the passcode. I do not need them.
